FITUR Cruises, a section dedicated to the world of cruises at the ongoing International Tourism Fair organised by IFEMA Madrid, highlighted the growing popularity and significant increase in cruise travel worldwide.

According to industry forecasts, more than 37 million passengers will embark on this form of tourism in 2025. Additionally, sector experts have stated that cruise passengers “are loyal to the cruise experience but mostly disloyal to cruise lines, as they enjoy trying new products and travel styles.”

In a press statement, FITUR says that it hosted numerous activities and presentations aimed at both professionals and the general public, analysing the latest trends and future developments in the sector.

Among the presentations, Frank Babingerse, UCM professor, analysed the current situation and challenges facing cruise ports, while the team from Baluma Cruises, representatives in Spain of Celebrity Cruises and Azamara, showcased the unique elements of premium cruise lines. Costa Cruises, a popular cruise line, introduced travel agents to its 2025 product offerings and highlighted the convenience of its “All-Inclusive” packages for enjoying “worry-free cruise vacations”. Costa also organised a networking event. Various other talks examined the current state of the cruise industry.

During the programme, Jesús García, editor-in-chief of Cruceroadicto.com Magazine, analysed the profile and preferences of cruise passengers in 2025.

“Cruise passengers are loyal to the cruise experience but mostly disloyal to cruise lines, as they enjoy trying new products and travel styles. The 2025 cruise passenger is more demanding and conscientious, spends more, is increasingly interested in ‘slow travelling,’ leans towards last- minute getaways where price is a determining factor, seeks embarkation points close to home or no more than three hours away, desires to feel sustainable, embraces workations, and is open to off-season travel to avoid overcrowding,” says García.

The statement adds that FITUR Cruises will continue its programme of events and presentations in the coming days, covering topics such as redefining ultra-premium cruises, the keys to the success and popularity of Spanish-language cruise excursions, maximising vacation enjoyment, travel insurance, and more.

Additionally, the popular Cruise Scavenger Hunt, sponsored by Intermundial, will take place over the weekend. Teams will solve clues and visit various cruise stops throughout the FITUR pavilions for a chance to win prizes such as cruises for two, excursion vouchers, or travel insurance.

FITUR Cruises also hosted the third edition of the Cruceroadicto Awards in an event attended by most of the 40 finalists across 16 categories. These international awards give travellers a voice in selecting the best cruise lines, ships, and ports of 2024, with winners determined by passenger votes.
