Escape Penang theme park attracted 240,000 visitors last year
Escape Penang, a leading themepark in Malaysia, has bagged two more titles awarded by Guinness World Records, taking its total to four titles.
In a press statement, Escape, which operates several themeparks including Escape Penang, says that the park, located in Teluk Bahang, about 400 km north of Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur now holds records for the “world’s largest tipping bucket” and the “world’s longest tubby racer”, adding to its existing achievements.
The statement adds that the giant bucket, capable of holding 28,757 litres of water, takes approximately 10 minutes to fill before dramatically tipping over, drenching visitors below in a thrilling waterfall experience, while the world’s longest tubby racer, which stretches an impressive 453.3m, allows visitors to slide through the rainforest at over 30kmph, offering an exhilarating and scenic adventure.
The statement adds that these latest records complement Escape Penang’s previous Guinness World Records titles, “the longest tube water slide” which is 1,111 m long, and the “longest zip coaster” which is 1,135 m long, which were set in 2019 and 2022, respectively.
The statement adds that the owner and operator of Escape Penang, Sim Leisure Group founder and Chief Executive Officer, Sim Choo Kheng, received the certification from Guinness World Records adjudicator Kazuyoshi Kirimura and the event was witnessed by Wong Hon Wai, Chairlman, Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee.

“The number one goal is not to maximise the length or volume of these rides, it is all about maximising smiles per hour. Tubby rides all around the world are always straight. When I saw the hill where the Tubby Racer would be, I realised the track would have curves and weave its way through the trees to avoid cutting them down or defacing the hill. So, the Tubby Racer took a big turn, making the ride much more exciting as guests ride down through the hill surrounded by trees and greenery,” says Choo Keng.
He adds that the theme park attracted 240,000 visitors last year and hoped to increase the number by at least 10 pc this year.
Meanwhile, Wong of Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee says the two new world records further solidify Penang’s reputation as a leader in innovation and tourism.
He adds that since opening in 2012, Escape Penang has continually expanded and enhanced its offerings, featuring attractions such as Adventureplay, Waterplay, Gravitiplay, and Base Camp.
“We take great pride in being home to the world’s longest tube water slide and the longest zip coaster, two major crowd-pullers that draw tourists to Penang. I understand that many visitors come specifically to experience these rides, which are unique to Penang. Escape Penang has not only created world-class attractions; it has also pioneered a new genre in the theme park industry, the Retro Eco Adventure Park, which promotes eco-literacy through fun and engaging experiences,” he adds.
