In a significant development, the Dominican Republic recently celebrated the arrival of its 11 millionth visitor at Punta Cana International Airport. This milestone highlights the country’s continued growth in tourism and reinforces its status as a leading destination in the Caribbean.
In a press statement, Dominican Republic says that, Bruce Pirt from Canada, accompanied by his wife and daughters, became the 11 millionth visitor upon arriving on an Air Transat flight.
It adds that the new record follows the 2023 achievement of 10 million visitors.
The tourism department says that David Collado, Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, emphasised this sustained growth is due to collaboration between the public and private sectors and predicted an even more promising future for tourism in the country.

The statement adds that the Dominican Republic reinforced its status as a top Caribbean destination by winning multiple Gold awards at the 2024 Travvy Awards in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
It adds that t received recognition in the categories of Best Destination, Best Tourism Board, Best Cruise Destination, Best Culinary Destination, and Best Wedding Destination, highlighting its appeal for natural beauty, effective tourism promotion, modern infrastructure, diverse cruise experiences, unique cuisine, and exceptional wedding services.
“Overcoming the barrier of 11 million visitors is a historic achievement that consolidates the Dominican Republic as a tourism leader in the region. This success translates into 949,000 direct and indirect jobs, USD 26 billion for GDP, and DOP 130 billion (USD 2.13 billion) in tax revenue,” says Collado.
