Discover Dominica Authority, the tourism promotion organisation of Dominica, says that it is set to open the world’s longest detachable cable car, connecting the Roseau Valley to Boiling Lake, in December this year.

In a press statement, Discover Dominica Authority CEO Marva Williams says that the cable car will reduce the journey to Boiling Lake from a six-hour hike to a 20-minute ride. It adds that American Airlines will expand service from Miami to six flights per week in August, adjust to two in September, return to daily service in October, and operate eight weekly flights in November and December.

According to news reports, Dominica has announced the development of a 10-mw geothermal plant, expected to become operational by the end of the year. Once completed, it will supply up to 50 pc of the country’s peak electricity demand. Additionally, Cabarets Marina which is worth USD 201 million, will accommodate vessels up to 46 m and include a marine village featuring dining, shopping and cultural experiences.

Additionally, Dominica’s new international airport is now 40 pc complete and remains on schedule for a 2027 opening. The facility will feature a 2,850-metre runway and a climate-resilient terminal, enabling direct flights from North America and Europe.

Dominica continues to set itself apart in the Caribbean by investing in projects that expand access while preserving what makes the Nature Island so special. We are redefining what it means to be a sustainable and green destination where nature is respected, where communities lead, where innovation fuels resilience, and where every traveller is transformed by the journey. “With our upcoming cable car, expanded airlift, and progress on renewable energy and infrastructure, we are not just building for today, we are creating a more sustainable, connected, and resilient future for generations to come,” says Williams.
