Deal activity in travel and tourism sector declines 5.9 pc: GlobalData

Between January and November 2024, a total of 649 deals, including mergers, acquisitions, private equity and venture financing were announced in the travel sector

GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, has reported a 5.9 pc decline in deal activity in the travel and tourism sector during the first eleven months of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. However, some regions including India and the EU, have seen a rise in M&A activity.

GlobalData, a data and analytics company, in a recent report revealed that deal activity in the travel and tourism sector declined by 5.9 pc year-on-year during January – November 2024.

In a press statement, the company states that between January and November this year, a total of 649 deals, including mergers, acquisitions, private equity and venture financing were announced in comparison to 690 deals announced during the same period in 2023.

“The travel and tourism sector deal activity showcased a mixed trend across the different deal types during the specified timeframe. And similarly, the trend across different regions and key markets remained a mixed bag during the review period,” Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData.

The analysis also adds that compared to the January-November 2023, the M&A and venture financing deal volumes decreased by 0.8 pc and 25.3 pc, respectively, during the January-November 2024. Meanwhile, private equity deals’ volume experienced a 27.3 pc year-on-year increase during the same timeframe.

While North America, Middle East and Africa and South and Central America registered double-digit declines with a fall of 31 pc, 18.2 pc, 20 pc and 2.3 pc in their deal volumes, respectively, during January-November 2024, Asia-Pacific experienced single-digit decline. Europe saw a 15.9 pc improvement in deal volume along with the UK, India and Japan which witnessed an improvement by 10 pc, 28.9 pc and 44.8 pc, respectively.

The United States, China, South Korea, and France witnessed decline in deal volume by 30.2 pc, 25.6 pc, 8.7 pc, and 25 pc, respectively, during January-November 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
