Consumer study reveals most eco-friendly tourist attractions of the world

Disney World Magic Kingdom (Bay Lake, Florida)

Taking a list of the 27 most visited tourist attractions around the world, Uswitch, a UK-based agency that allows consumers to compare prices for a range of energy, personal finance, insurance and communications services, has analysed their commitment to sustainability, based on six eco-friendly parameters -- low emissions, water reduction, recycling schemes, re-wilding efforts, renewable energy and sustainable transport.

In a world where the need of the hour is reducing waste, embrace renewable resources and lighten carbon footprints, tourist attractions have a very important role to play towards sustainability, says Uswitch.

Each attraction could score a maximum of 10 points for each element and the agency used a weighted ranking system to achieve the final score out of 60, it adds.

The Disney World Magic Kingdom (Bay Lake, Florida, U.S) was ranked at the top marks (56) followed by Sydney Opera House (50), Niagara Falls (46), Disney Hong Kong (45.5), Natural History Museum, Tring, Hertfordshire, UK (44), Eiffel Tower in Paris (42.5), Disneyland Paris (42) and so on.
