The jury selected Borja Torres Fuentes' research for its structured approach and academic methodology
In a remarkable achievement, Borja Torres Fuentes has been awarded the 26th FITUR Jorge Vila Fradera Tribune Award for his research, “La planificación, gobernanza y gestión transfronteriza de un destino turístico: la Eurorregión de Nueva-Aquitania Euskadi Navarra.”
In a press statement, the organisers of FITUR say that his work delves into the strategic planning, governance, and cross-border management of tourism in the New Aquitaine-Euskadi-Navarre Euroregion.
The statement adds that the jury selected Fuentes’ research for its structured approach and academic methodology.
It says that the study identifies opportunities, risks, and threats in cross-border tourism, backed by a literature review and contemporary theoretical frameworks. It applies qualitative and quantitative research methods, integrating bibliographic analysis and data from programmes like Interreg and DEDER.
FITUR says that the award recognises the best unpublished academic research related to the tourism industry each year. The statement adds that FITUR, in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Tourism Experts (AECIT), announced the award during the International Tourism Trade Fair held from at IFEMA Madrid.
It adds that the findings outline strategic elements for cross-border tourism governance and provide practical recommendations for professionals.
It further adds that the study highlights economic, socio-cultural, and environmental aspects, aligning with the award’s objective of advancing knowledge in sustainable tourism practices.
