As the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) outlines its goals on market diversification and sustainability, Avinash Kanti Teelock has been appointed as its new director, effective from May 30 this year.

In a press statement, MTPA says that Teelock brings over 10 years of industry experience and will lead strategic direction as the board seeks to reinforce African country’s position in global tourism markets.

It adds that Teelock has worked in senior roles across major hospitality groups in Mauritius. From 2017 to 2023, he served as key account manager at Attitude Hotels, where he oversaw client relations and sales operations, with a focus on international partnerships and market-specific strategies.

MTPA says that before joining Attitude Hotels, he held the position of cluster sales executive at Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa. There, he managed sales across luxury properties, with a focus on the MICE segment and high-end travellers. He began his career with Beachcomber Hotels as a sales and marketing executive, where he gained experience in brand operations and guest engagement.

The parastatal organisation says that he is a graduate of the University of Manchester with a degree in modern language, business and management in Chinese. He is fluent in English and French and has advanced proficiency in Mandarin, which MTPA says will support its engagement with key Asian markets.

The statement says that Teelock will lead efforts to strengthen Mauritius’s visibility as an island destination, with emphasis on sustainability, digital adoption and diversification of source markets. MTPA adds that the appointment is part of broader measures to align the country’s tourism development with evolving global trends and traveller expectations.

“It is an honour to serve Mauritius in this role. I am committed to enhancing our country’s global tourism profile by promoting sustainable, culturally rich, and innovative travel experiences,” says Teelock.
