Intended to improve visibility of African destinations to LGBTQ+ travellers: ATTA
To promote inclusive tourism, African Travel & Tourism Association has entered a two-year organisational partnership with the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA), to establish links between African tourism stakeholders and global LGBTQ+ travel market.
In a press statement, ATTA says that the agreement includes mutual membership between the two organisations, as well as shared marketing and promotional activities across their respective platforms and networks.
“We are thrilled to establish this formal collaboration with IGLTA, which marks an important step in making African destinations more visible and accessible to LGBTQ+ travellers worldwide. This partnership reflects our commitment to inclusive tourism that celebrates diversity across our continent – and creates meaningful connections between international visitors and African communities,” says Kgomotso Ramothea, CEO, ATTA.
The association adds that the partnership formalises cooperation efforts between the associations and creates new avenues for tourism representation.
ATTA says that the collaboration is intended to improve visibility of African destinations to LGBTQ+ travellers and build sustained engagement with tourism operators across the continent.
The travel organisation says that this announcement comes at a time when international travel markets are seeing sustained interest in LGBTQ+ travel, with African destinations being explored for wider representation.
The statement says that the agreement will be supported by Ramothea and Martina Barth who is an IGLTA Membership Manager and works as Group Sales Manager for Liz McGrath Collection.
“We look forward to collaborating with ATTA to support safe and inclusive tourism and strengthening connections among our members. Since our historic first IGLTA Global Convention in Africa, held in Cape Town in 2016, we have increased our commitment to raising awareness for LGBTQ+ travel across the continent, and this is another important step on that journey,” says John Tanzella, CEO, IGLTA.
