Abu Dhabi’s growth as a cultural and tourism hub is driven by DCT’s strategic vision and collaborations across private, government, and semi-government sectors

With a strong surge in tourism, the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) reported 4.8 million guests and a 26 pc increase in international visitors from January to October 2024.

In a press statement, DCT Abu Dhabi says that the growth highlights the success of the emirate’s tourism initiatives and its rising appeal as a global cultural and travel destination.

DCT Abu Dhabi says that the emirate saw a rise in international guests from 26 key source markets, including India, China, Russia, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia.

It adds that its cultural sites, libraries, and museums welcomed over 3.9 million visitors by October 2024, marking a 21 pc increase compared to 2023.

The statement adds that Abu Dhabi’s growth as a cultural and tourism hub is driven by DCT’s strategic vision and collaborations across private, government, and semi-government sectors.

It adds that Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Strategy 2030 aims to attract 39.3 million visitors, create 178,000 jobs, and contribute AED 90 billion to GDP by 2030.

It adds that DCT Abu Dhabi’s collaboration with partners is key to unlocking growth opportunities. The recent City Tourism Briefing highlighted this, with discussions on Zayed International Airport now servicing 24 airlines, strengthening Abu Dhabi’s global connectivity. Etihad Airways introduced 10 new routes, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi connects to 35 destinations, and Air Arabia links over 200 destinations from six hubs in the UAE, Morocco, Egypt, and Pakistan.

The statement adds that DCT Abu Dhabi plans to expand into new international markets and strengthen its presence in existing ones through trade initiatives like roadshows and training programs. The emirate is also increasing hotel capacity and advancing entertainment projects, including the expansion of Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi.

The statement adds that upcoming projects include the addition of Harry Potter World at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, completion of the Saadiyat Cultural District in 2025, development of Hudayriyat Island for sports and adventure, and enhancements to Yas Waterworld.

It adds that DCT Abu Dhabi remains committed to driving progress, and collaboration with private, semi-private, and government partners to strengthen its position as a global tourism and cultural destination.
