Settled by humans as early as the Neolithic, the mountain has been worshipped continuously throughout the last three millennia
Mount Taishan, a prominent UNESCO World Heritage Site in East China’s Shandong province, has reported over 5 million tourists so far this year.
According to a press statement by the state tourism agency Shandong Tourism Bureau, Mount Taishan area is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in China, famed for its natural scenery spanning mountains, tourism amenities and services, and many cultural landscapes.
Situated in Daiyue District of Tai’an City, Mount Taishan is the first of the five mountains in China and also a world cultural and natural heritage.
Tourism has traditionally been an important part of the area as Mount Taishan is also known to be the birthplace of Chinese civilisation, thus serving as an important symbol of ancient Chinese culture.

Settled by humans as early as the Neolithic, the mountain has been worshipped continuously throughout the last three millennia.
In a unique initiative to actively promote tourism, the tourism board has started a campaign with theme activities, naming the first million, the second million, the third million, and the fourth million tourists into the mountain as the ‘lucky stars’ of Mount Taishan.
These visitors have also been awarded the ‘lucky star’ trophy of peace, Mount Taishan annual tourism card and Mount Taishan cultural and creative tourism souvenirs to encourage tourism.
