32 yachts to participate in 21st Royal Langkawi International Regatta

Tourism Malaysia has announced that the 21st Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) will take place from January 20 to 25 and is expected to draw 32 sailing yachts and over 250 participants from around the globe.

As many as 32 yachts, with a total crew of 250 persons, will be in the fray when the 21st Royal Langkawi International Regatta, one of the most anticipated maritime events, gets underway from January 20- January 25.

In a press statement, Tourism Malaysia says that the regatta will have 32 sailing yachts from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, China, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, Denmark, and Australia, with more than 250 participants. It adds that the regatta, RLIR, aims to establish Malaysia and Langkawi as a prominent sailing destination while promoting sailing and boosting sports tourism.

The event, which marks the start of Southeast Asia’s 2025 sailing regatta calendar, attracts seasoned sailors, international yacht owners, and maritime enthusiasts from across the globe to experience the thrilling competition, Langkawi’s renowned hospitality, tropical beauty, and cultural charm.

The statement adds that over the course of five days, participants will navigate the pristine waters of the Andaman Sea, competing across various categories and classes, ensuring a dynamic and inclusive regatta.

While sailing in Langkawi is an exceptional experience for both seasoned mariners and novices, visitors can also immerse themselves in Langkawi’s diverse attractions. The island’s UNESCO Global Geopark showcases ancient rainforests, mangroves, and unique karst formations, perfect for nature enthusiasts exploring by boat or on foot. Thrill-seekers can enjoy the Langkawi Sky Bridge and Cable Car, offering panoramic views of the island’s lush landscapes and turquoise waters. Other water activities beyond sailing include snorkelling, diving, and sunset cruises around the archipelago’s 99 islands.

In addition to a plethora of activities and entertainment options, Langkawi also offers a diverse and delectable food scene. Food lovers can indulge in fresh seafood at bustling night markets or savour local dishes like nasi lemak, a fragrant coconut rice dish served with spicy sambal, crispy anchovies, and boiled egg, and laksa Kedah, a tangy and spicy rice noodle soup made with rich fish broth and tamarind. Cultural attractions like the Laman Padi Rice Garden offer a glimpse into Langkawi’s heritage, adds the statement.
