The Schengen region is surging back as the top pick for Indian travellers, according to data from Atlys, a leading visa-processing platform.

In a press statement, Atlys says that buoyed by a remarkable 29 pc rise in visa applications compared to last year, this uptick underscores the region’s enduring allure for those seeking sun-drenched escapes and rich cultural experiences.

The statement adds that Portugal, Greece, Spain and Italy have emerged as the most popular entry points into the Schengen zone, drawing visitors with their vibrant traditions, robust tourism infrastructure and warm hospitality.

According to the statement, gen Z and millennial travellers are fueling much of this growth, with Atlys reporting a 23.5 pc increase in visa requests from younger Indians eager for longer European holidays.

The statement adds that this democratisation of travel is driven by rising incomes and greater access to information, enabling more Indians to explore the continent. For luxury travellers, France, Italy and Switzerland remain perennial favourites, offering indulgent escapes from Tuscany’s vineyards to the glamour of the French Riviera and the tranquil Swiss lakes.

Moreover, Atlys adds, the adventure enthusiasts are increasingly drawn to Austria, Slovenia and northern Spain, where alpine sports, hiking and offbeat nature experiences abound.

The statement says that the Mediterranean climate, with its pleasant 20-30°C summer temperatures and long daylight hours, perfectly complements the holiday season, inviting travellers outdoors for exploration and relaxation.
