SATTE 2022 postponed by three months

Following the recent spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in India, the show dates for SATTE, South Asia’s largest trade exhibition for the travel and tourism sector, have been rescheduled. The show will now be organised from May 18-20, 2022, in Greater Noida, near Delhi, says Informa Markets in India, the organiser of the B2B travel trade exhibition. SATTE was originally slated for February 16-18, 2022 at the same venue.

“While our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by this outbreak, we believe the postponement is in the best interests of all stakeholders of SATTE, many of whom comprise international and state tourism boards. Informa Markets in India continues to monitor the developing situation and remain in close communication with relevant local government bodies, the industry and other key stakeholders, and our goal is to invariably provide an enhanced business experience for the travel and tourism community,” says Pallavi Mehra, group director, Informa Markets India.

Thailand reopens 3 more Sandbox destinations from January 11, 2022

Thailand’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) approves a new round of relaxed entry measures for international arrivals to Thailand, reopening three more Sandbox destinations – Krabi, Phang-Nga, and Surat Thani (only Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao) from January 11, 2022, in addition to Phuket.

International travellers will be able to travel to Thailand under the Sandbox programme, and can choose to undergo their mandatory 7-day stay in either Krabi, Phang-Na, Phuket, or Surat Thani at Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao.

However, all travellers must make sure that they arrange everything in order before applying for the Sandbox Thailand Pass. This can include, but not limited to, a vaccination certificate, a pre-arrival negative RT-PCR test result, prepaid 7-night’s accommodation in an approved hotel, prepaid RT-PCR tests for when in Thailand, and an insurance policy with coverage no less than USD 50,000.

Travellers must stay at least the first 7 nights within a Sandbox destination if planning to continue the journey to other destinations in Thailand. If staying less than 7 nights, the traveller must leave Thailand to another country immediately. Also from January 11, 2022, the CCSA approved the lifting of travel restrictions on arrivals from African countries.

This means travellers from Africa will be allowed to apply for the Thailand Pass under either the Sandbox programme or the Alternative Quarantine system.

Delays in processing UK visitor visas: British High Commission in India

In a series of tweets, the British High Commission in India says that standard UK visitors visas continue to experience a substantial delay in processing due to exceptionally high global demand.

“Due to extremely high global demand, standard UK visitor visas continue to experience a significant delay in processing,” the high commission tweeted.

It also added that the vast majority of Super Priority visa applications and Priority visa applications are still being assessed within their service standards – end of next working day or five working days respectively.

Considering the high global demand, the high commission says that customers and partners are not required to make any travel-related payments, such as flights or accommodation until they acquire their visa.

Norwegian Cruise Line bags ‘Best Cruise’ at India’s Best Awards 2021

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has been voted ‘Best Cruise’ at India’s Best Awards (IBA) 2021, the annual flagship awards of Travel + Leisure India & South Asia. NCL was cited as having transformed the cruise industry with its pioneering concept of freestyle cruising, allowing guests the flexibility to holiday their way, with multiple dining options and no set dining times or tables; onboard activities for the young and the young-at-heart, as well as enriching onshore excursions. The award is an acknowledgement of the company’s unparalleled dedication to delivering exceptional holidays at sea, visiting over 300 destinations around the world, says NCL.

“This is a very special honour indeed, more so because it comes from the readers of Travel + Leisure - travellers who have enjoyed the NCL experience first-hand. We are delighted to be named India’s ‘Best Cruise' for 2021, as we mark our 10th ship to return to sail in our Great Cruise Comeback. Looking ahead to 2022, we’re thrilled to be launching the all-new Norwegian Prima – the first in a class of six ships to be delivered over six years - which will truly elevate the cruise experience. No matter where in the world they choose to sail with us, our guests can be sure they’ll enjoy a best-in-class cruise experience, with the peace of mind that NCL’s comprehensive Sail Safe health and safety program provides,” says Braydon Holland, senior director sales Asia, Norwegian Cruise Line.
