Indian multinational hospitality chain Oyo’s parent company Oravel Stays has added the first property in the United Kingdom under its luxury heritage Sunday brand.
According to a press statement by Oyo, its parent company has partnered with an existing hotel on Poplar High Street, which is now known as the Sunday Lansbury Heritage Hotel.
The property is located around 800 m from the Elizabeth Line stop at Canary Wharf station and features 35 rooms, as well as a restaurant, fitness centre and spa.
The statement adds that the heritage building was constructed in 1870 and was home to Poplar Borough Council until 1938. It opened as the Lansbury Heritage Hotel in 2017 and recently unveiled a new fitness centre with Technogym equipment.
The Sunday brand launched in 2023 and Oyo says there are plans to grow the portfolio to 25 properties by the spring 2025, with future locations including Malaysia and the UAE.
Oyo launched in the UK in 2018, and as of October last year had a round 160 properties across 65 cities in the UK, the vast majority of which are franchised.
The statement adds that the group also recently partnered with Sojo Stays to launch Belvilla by Oyo, offering around 300 apartments and homes in cities across the UK.
“The launch of Sunday Lansbury Heritage Hotel marks a significant milestone for Oravel Stays in the UK market, our data indicates a growing demand for premium, experience-driven accommodations. This strategic move allows us to tap into the luxury segment, while maintaining our commitment to delivering value across all price points,” says Puneet Yadav, Head of Oravel’s UK business.
