IHG announces the signing of Crowne Plaza in Lagos by early 2028
IHG Hotels and Resorts, a leading hotel company, announced the signing of Crowne Plaza Lagos Ikeja, a new 119-room hotel set to open in Nigeria’s largest city and its commercial capital Lagos in early 2028.
In a press statement, IHG says that the project is being developed under a franchise agreement with Watercress Hotel International and will be operated by Valor Hospitality Partners, a global leader in integrated hotel management and operations solutions and a trusted partner of IHG.
The statement adds that located in Lagos’ thriving Ikeja district, the city’s primary administrative, aviation and commercial hub, Crowne Plaza Lagos Ikeja will offer clients unparalleled connectivity. Its prime location ensures easy access to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja City Mall, major corporate offices, embassies and cultural landmarks such as the Nike Art Gallery.
IHG says that this positions the hotel as an ideal destination for international business travellers, government delegations and leisure guests seeking both convenience and cultural immersion. The hotel’s central setting also provides quick access to Lagos’ famous coastal attractions, including Tarkwa Bay Beach and Elegushi Beach, allowing guests to experience the city’s vibrant waterfront lifestyle.
According to the statement, Crowne Plaza Lagos Ikeja will bring the brand’s signature features to West Africa for the first time, including the next-generation Plaza Workspace, an innovative, design-led environment designed to foster collaboration and support informal meetings.
Additionally, customers will also enjoy WorkLife Rooms, thoughtfully crafted to blend comfort and functionality for seamless transitions between work and relaxation.
“Lagos is one of Africa’s most influential commercial and cultural centres, and we are pleased to expand our presence in this strategic market with the signing of Crowne Plaza Lagos Ikeja. Nigeria continues to show strong potential for growth and Lagos, as a key economic and transportation hub, aligns well with our long-term development strategy across the region,” says Haitham Mattar, Managing Director, IHG Hotels & Resorts, India, Middle East & Africa.
“We are proud to partner with IHG Hotels and Resorts to introduce the globally recognised Crowne Plaza brand to Lagos. Our vision for this property is to create a landmark hotel that reflects the energy and ambition of Lagos, while not only meeting but exceeding the international standards expected by modern travellers. This collaboration aligns with our long-term goals to contribute to Nigeria’s hospitality landscape through innovation, quality and guest-centric experiences,” says Samuel Ayinde, Executive Director, at Watercress Hotel International Limited.
