Property is being repurposed from a commercial office building: IHG
British multinational hospitality company InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), in partnership with JH Group, has announced the signing of its first Voco hotel in the Northern Territory in Australia.
In a press statement, IHG says that this hotel is located within Central Business District of Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory. The property is being repurposed from a commercial office building and will include a restaurant, meeting space, fitness centre and outdoor pool. Each guest room will feature a kitchenette, designed for both short and extended stays.
“We are thrilled to welcome John Halikos and the JH Group to our IHG community, as together we bring the Voco hotels brand to Darwin in a landmark agreement that marks a significant milestone in our regional growth strategy,” says Cameron Burke, Director, Development, Australasia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts.
It adds that the hotel will be established near the Darwin Entertainment Centre and Crocosaurus Cove, with a focus on convenience and access to local attractions. It will join five Voco hotels already operating in Australia, with another set to open in Gosford by the end of 2025.

“It is fantastic to be in partnership with IHG and we are excited to bring the premium Voco brand to the Northern Territory. Voco is a perfect fit for international and domestic guests, at a time of significant need for new hotels in Darwin, specifically Mitchell Street CBD. The Halikos family strongly believes in building, investing in and supporting the local community and we see this development as central to that strategy. Voco hotels is IHG’s fastest growing premium brand globally, with voco Darwin Suites joining five Voco hotels properties in Australia, and the highly anticipated Voco Gosford set to open on the Central Coast in late-2025,” says John Halikos, JH Group.

By leveraging IHG’s extensive distribution channels, including our IHG One Rewards loyalty programme, we are wholly focussed on optimising performance for the benefit of our owners. This powerful combination made voco an ideal choice for JH Group and we are looking forward to supporting its ambition to create a distinctive lean-lifestyle presence in the Darwin market,” adds Burke.
