While hotel room rates in the United States continue to be substantially higher than the global average, a new survey has ranked Boston as the most expensive city in the US for accommodation.
According to the latest annual survey conducted by Cheaphotels, a provider of worldwide hotel rooms, hotel rates in Boston are up more than 5 pc compared to last year with an average price of USD 320 for the most affordable double room.
The statement adds that Jersey City in New York State ranks second, where travellers will have to spend an average of USD 310 per night for the most affordable double room. The city, which is bound on the east by the Hudson River, is even pricier than its more famous counterpart, New York City, this October.
The Big Apple came out in third position with an average rate of USD 284 per night. The national capital Washington DC ranks in the 30th position with USD 184 as average room rates.
The survey says that Raleigh, the capital of South Carolina, ranks as 4th most expensive, with an average of USD 258 per night, a jump of more than 25 pc compared with 2023.
The survey compared hotel rates across 100 US destinations during October 2024, the month when hotel prices in most American cities tend to be at their highest. Only centrally-located hotels with a 3-star rating or more were considered for the survey.
However, the biggest jump is recorded in San Diego, where visitors will have to spend an average of 31 pc more than last year for the least expensive room, as per the survey.
It adds that at the other end of the spectrum, hotel rates have dropped by 20 pc in San Francisco, where visitors can find a room for an average of just USD 105 per night.
Prices shown reflect the average rate for each city’s cheapest available double room in minimum 3-star hotels located in the city centre for the period October 1–31, 2024.
