The French multinational hospitality giant Accor says it is set to open the largest Sofitel-branded property in the world in Cairo when the Sofitel Cairo Downtown Nile opens in January 2025.
In a press statement, Accor says that this new luxury hotel will be created by converting the existing El Gezirah Sheraton Hotel and Towers, offering 615 rooms and suites with panoramic views of the Nile.
Located near top Cairo attractions like the upcoming Grand Egyptian Museum and the Pyramids of Giza, the hotel will cater to both leisure and business travellers, adds the statement.
It says that the hotel will feature four unique food and beverages venues, including riverside dining, a wellness centre with a spa, fitness facilities, a pool, and more than 2,000 sqm of event space.
The statement adds that Sofitel Cairo Downtown Nile will join Accor’s existing Egyptian Sofitel properties, including Sofitel Cairo Nile El Gezirah, Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor, and Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan.
“This new signing reaffirms our commitment to Egypt, one of our key markets with great potential, celebrated for its rich heritage and vibrant tourism scene. We are thrilled to be expanding our portfolio with Sofitel Cairo Downtown Nile, which will not only bring our renowned French zest to life but also honour the rich local culture,” says Maud Bailly, CEO, Sofitel, Sofitel Legend, MGallery and Emblems.
“With the hotel becoming our largest Sofitel in the world and our fourth destination in Egypt, Sofitel Cairo Downtown Nile represents a remarkable addition to our high-quality network, perfectly reflecting the grandeur of its destination,” Bailly adds.
The statement adds that this launch comes soon after Accor’s extensive refurbishment of its Sofitel Sydney Wentworth property, a five-star hotel in Sydney’s central business district.
