To celebrate the 20th anniversary of live action movie Scooby-Doo, American actor Matthew Lillard, famously known for playing the role of Shaggy, one of the main characters in the film, will be the Airbnb Host of the Scooby-Doo gang’s iconic van, Mystery Machine along the Southern California Coastline this Summer.

In partnership with Airbnb and Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP), Lillard will be hosting three groovy stays in a recreation of the Mystery Machine.

“I have been channeling Shaggy since the live-action adaptation in 2002, and he’s been a part of me ever since,” said Lillard. “I can’t wait to welcome guests into the world of the Mystery Inc. gang as their Airbnb Host and give them a summer vacation they’ll never forget…monsters not included!” he adds.

Though the Mystery Machine was not so far available to the public for overnight stays before, the iconic van will finally be made available to fans, bringing them right back to experience the era of 2002.

Guests will be able to book three individual one-night stays from June 24 to 26 for only USD 20. During their stays, guests will get to experience the life of Shaggy and Scooby in the Mystery Machine. The experience will also include a virtual greeting from Lillard upon arrival after which he may even share some of his favorite memories from the film. The Mystery Machine will provide plenty of throwbacks to 2002, including songs to the latest Sugar Ray album on a portable CD player.

One can even bask in the glow of a lava lamp and don Shaggy’s signature puka shell necklace. Guests will also get the chance to have all-you-can-eat snacks and a selection to choose from for dinner, featuring all of Shaggy & Scooby’s favorite foods such as hot dogs and eggplant burgers. The iconic van will also provide guests with mystery games, a late-night re-run of Scooby-Doo in retro televisions and even an outdoor setup with enough lounge seating and hammock space.

Fans can request to book this stay from June 16 at 1 pm ET at airbnb.com/mysterymachine. The company will not be providing any expenses for a guest’s travel to and from Southern California, guests will have to be responsible for it themselves.

Those hoping to stay in the Mystery Machine should note that this stay’s rules require following applicable local, state and federal rules and guidelines for COVID-19, as well as Airbnb’s Covid-19 safety practices, which may include wearing a mask and practicing social distancing when required by local laws or guidelines. On-site staff will also comply with local rules and guidelines and will abide by the company’s five-step enhanced cleaning process.
