Art forms such as architecture, pottery, weaving, music, jewellery, and paintings have been present throughout Greece’s history. Dips such as zatziki (yogurt, cucumber and garlic), melitzanosalata (aubergine), and fava (creamy split pea purée) as well as cured olives, moussaka (oven baked layers of sautéed aubergine, minced lamb, fried puréed tomato, and cheese) are just a few dishes from Greek cuisine but enough to tempt a food enthusiast. Greek cooking is known for the use of fresh produce, herbs, spices, olive oil, all put together in a simple yet authentic fashion. Only a tasting of local produces such as meat, seafood, fruits, vegetables, pulses and cheese completes the experience. In Greece, a meal is complete with a glass of Greek wine, ouzo (aperitif) or tsipouro (pomace brandy).

Greek sovereign land has about 6,000 islands and islets scattered in the Aegean and Ionian seas, and of these only 227 are inhabited. Almost 16,000 km in length, they have come to be known for their crystal clear waters. Most of these islands are also home to a number of archaeological sites, featuring unique architecture and local traditions, making them interesting spots for tourists seeking a taste of Greek culture. Even for the ones travelling with their families, these islands make for nice escapades. There is also some water action in the shape of adventure sports that can be experienced here. Many of these Greek beaches have been awarded the blue flag under the Blue Flags of Europe Program that also make it ideal for water activities like swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, water skiing, sailing and windsurfing.
