International Jerusalem ‘Winner’ Marathon will be held on March 17

Registrations for the 12th edition of the International Jerusalem Winner Marathon are now open.

Tens of thousands of runners from all over Israel and around the world are expected to participate in the 12th International Jerusalem ‘Winner’ Marathon which will be held on March 17.

According to a press statement, the Jerusalem Winner Marathon course not only allows runners to take in the tremendous sights of the modern and old neighbourhoods of the city but also tests their stamina with its steep inclines and hills. No wonder it is considered among the most beautiful and challenging marathon courses in the world.

The statement says that the course includes Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, the Supreme Court, the Israel Museum, the President’s Residence, the walls of Jerusalem surrounding the Old City, the Armenian Quarter, the Tower of David, the Khan Theater and the Sultan’s Pool. The race finishes in Sacher Park.

The Jerusalem ‘Winner’ Marathon is a celebration for the city of Jerusalem, when tens of thousands of visitors visit the city and the local businesses during the marathon weekend, with businesses and hotels offering discounts, special travel packages, and more.

“We are excited to announce the opening of the Jerusalem ‘Winner’ Marathon events and celebrate 12 years of activity, in which hundreds of thousands of runners from Israel and around the world have participated. Jerusalem invites professional athletes and sports enthusiasts to register and take part in one of the most remarkable sports events in Israel, while enjoying an unforgettable running experience that includes getting to know significant landmarks in the history of Jerusalem,” says Moshe Lion, Mayor of Jerusalem.

The statement says that registration for the marathon is open and includes 6 races:

Full marathon (42.2 km)

Half marathon (21.1 km)

10 km race

5 km race

Family race (1.7 km)

Communities race (0.8 km)

Those interested to participate can get more information on the various tracks, accommodation options and the accompanying events on the marathon website.

The International Jerusalem ‘Winner’ Marathon is headed by the Municipality of Jerusalem, in cooperation with the Jerusalem Development Authority, with the support and assistance of the Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and Heritage, the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Ministry of Tourism, primarily sponsored by Toto-Winner.

The runners registered for the marathon will receive a package including; an official Saucony Dri-FIT race shirt, a personal competition number, a disposable timing chip, as well as other benefits. “I am thrilled that everything is getting back to normal. We have been waiting for since the first wave of the pandemic brough the world to a standstill two years ago.  We are confident that visitor numbers will gradually recover to pre-pandemic numbers as consumer confidence grows in line with the gradual easing of restrictions.  Our first, and most important priority is the safety and wellbeing of all those who wish to travel to Israel, and starting next week, I look forward to welcoming Indian runners to participate around the beautiful sites of Jerusalem,” says Sammy Yahia, Israel’s Director of Tourism to India and Philippines.
