It’s Time for Culture is a celebration of the range and richness of New York City’s offerings

With over 100 cultural activities of varied kinds lined up for the annual cultural festival in New York, the New York City Tourism+Conventions has announced details of the festival to be held from May 9-21.

New York City’s official destination marketing organisation and convention and visitors bureau has announced the return of It’s Time for Culture programme with details of almost 100 cultural offerings across the five boroughs of the city. According to New York City Tourism + Conventions, the festival will involve activities at nearly 100 cultural organisations to be held from May 9-21.

The programme, comprising seasonal events, concerts, tours, classes, family-friendly programs and more, kicks off the unofficial start of the New York City summer cultural season.

“Cultural travel accounts for 40 percent of global travel and continues to be one of the top activities for visitors to New York City. As the weather warms, we are launching It’s Time for Culture to encourage visitors to explore the diversity and vibrancy of our city’s cultural landscape, and the talent and creativity that can be found across all five boroughs,” says Fred Dixon, President and CEO of New York City Tourism + Conventions.

According to a press statement issued by the bureau, It’s Time for Culture is a celebration of the range and richness of New York City’s offerings, providing visitors the opportunity to enjoy a variety of experiences and immersions into the City’s vibrant cultural scene. Consumers can sort through nearly 100 offerings by borough, neighborhood and category at the board’s website.

The statement adds that as the premier sponsor of New York City Tourism + Conventions’ signature vibrancy programmes, Mastercard is the preferred payment partner. Some of the key participating institutions include Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, Coney Island USA, Brooklyn Children’s Museum, Mark Morris Dance Group, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Dance Parade, New York Live Arts, Museum of the City of New York, National Museum of the American Indian, Apollo Theater, Harlem One Stop, American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog, Louis Armstrong House Museum, New York Hall of Science and National Lighthouse Museum.

“I am thrilled to support New York City Tourism + Conventions’ It’s Time for Culture programme, bringing awareness to unique cultural organizations across all five boroughs,” says Taryn Sacramone, Executive Director at Queens Theatre and Co-Chair of New York City Tourism + Conventions’ Cultural Committee.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors to Queens Theatre to experience our interactive magic show, and we encourage them to check out the variety of vibrant cultural offerings included in the programme,” adds Sacramone.

The statement adds that New York City’s economic recovery continued in 2022 with over 56 million travelers arriving in the City, representing an increase of 72.5 pc over 2021. This activity marks the return of 85 pc of the City’s record 2019 visitation levels. The bureau says that NYC remains on track to welcome 63.3 million visitors in 2023 and that in New York City, cultural travellers historically account for more than half of visitors.
