To meet the increasing demand for premium travel between India and the United Kingdom, British carrier Virgin Atlantic has launched a second daily direct service between London Heathrow (LHR) and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM).
In a press statement, Virgin Atlantic says with this addition it now operates five daily flights to India, reflecting the country’s strategic importance in the airline’s global network.
It says that by 2025, the airline expects to offer nearly one million seats in the Indian market, marking its most significant growth area outside the United States.
The statement adds that the latest London-Mumbai flight is operated by Virgin Atlantic’s cutting-edge Airbus A350-1000, designed for enhanced comfort across all three of its cabin classes: Upper Class, Premium and Economy.
The Upper Class cabins feature fully flat beds, private suites with customisable mood lighting and the largest in-flight entertainment screens offered by the airline.
Premium travellers enjoy luxurious leather seats, 13.3-inch screens, and increased storage options, while Economy seats come with USB ports, 11.6-inch entertainment screens, and extra comfort features for long-haul flights.
“India presents a tremendous opportunity for us, thanks to its dynamic and rapidly growing economy. Mumbai is an essential market for Virgin Atlantic, and we have witnessed significant demand for premium travel experiences on this route. The impressive growth in our Upper Class and Premium cabins reflects the preferences of the discerning Indian traveller on one of the youngest fleets in the skies, with our signature service delivered by our dedicated team. “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai is delighted to welcome Virgin Atlantic as they introduce a second daily direct service, effectively doubling the capacity on the highly popular London–Mumbai route. The airline says that in addition to enhancing passenger comfort, Virgin Atlantic’s A350-1000 aircraft brings logistical benefits to industries vital to India’s economy.
The expanded cargo capacity is expected to facilitate easier and more frequent transport of goods between the UK and India, especially in sectors like fashion, technology, and pharmaceuticals.
According to the airline, this capacity boost aligns with Virgin Atlantic’s commitment to supporting vital trade links alongside memorable travel experiences.
