Star Alliance elects Michael Rousseau of Air Canada as new Chairperson

In a pivotal move, Michael Rousseau, President and CEO, Air Canada, has been named the new Chairperson of Star Alliance's Chief Executive Board, succeeding Scott Kirby of United Airlines to lead the world’s largest airline alliance.

The world’s biggest aviation alliance, Star Alliance, has elected Michael Rousseau, President and CEO of Air Canada, as the new Chairperson of its Chief Executive Board (CEB). Rousseau succeeds Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines, who held the position since December 2020, marking a key leadership transition for the Alliance as it charts its strategic future.

According to a press statement, Rousseau will chair two annual board meetings and act as the board’s spokesperson. It adds that Rousseau will also guide the Alliance’s strategic direction, comprising 25 global member airlines.

The statement adds that each of the 25 member airlines is represented by its CEO on the CEB, which governs the Alliance and sets its strategic direction.
