SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier of Sri Lanka and a member of the oneworld alliance, will start an additional daytime flight between Bengaluru and Colombo from October 31, bringing the total frequency on the route to 10 per week.
In a press statement, SriLankan says that this new schedule is designed for Indian travellers seeking short getaways or business trips to Sri Lanka, with flights available on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The statement adds that flight UL 1174 will depart Bengaluru at 09:40, arriving in Colombo by 11:10, and flight UL 1173 will leave Colombo at 07:20, reaching Bengaluru at 08:40.
SriLankan adds that these additional flights aim to offer travellers more daylight hours to explore Sri Lanka, with a weekend-oriented schedule that lets passengers maximise their time on the island and return home comfortably before the workweek begins.
It says that the added convenience aligns with Sri Lanka’s growing appeal as a destination in India’s outbound travel market, celebrated for its close cultural ties and diverse travel experiences, from historical sites and wellness retreats to coastal getaways.
The airline says that Indian travellers can explore a variety of experiences in just a few days, enhanced by the flexible schedule and proximity.
It adds that travellers who are members of the airline’s frequent flyer programme, FlySmiLes, can earn 1,889 km and 1,187 km when they travel on UL 1174 and UL 1173, respectively.
The airline adds that customers can also savour mouthwatering Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine while enjoying the warmth and friendliness that embody the essence of Sri Lanka when travelling aboard SriLankan Airlines.
Aside from the new additions, SriLankan Airlines says it will continue to operate its existing daily service between the two cities.
The statement adds that India is the only country to have nine of its cities featured in SriLankan Airlines’ network, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Trichy and Madurai, in addition to Bengaluru. Altogether, SriLankan operates close to 90 flights every week between India and Sri Lanka.
