Thailand, has had significant capacity growth in the last year, adding 22 pc more seats
International air capacity from India in June stands at 17.1 million seats, a growth of 7 pc over the number of seats in June last year, says a report by OAG, a global travel data provider.
In a press statement, OAG which released its monthly India Aviation Data, says that airline capacity for international travel stood at 32 pc of the total capacity, with domestic capacity accounting for a lion’s share of 68 pc. In the international travel, low-cost airlines dominate the market with 69 pc of 17.1 million seats.
The report adds that IndiGo as the majority share of capacity from India with 49 pc share of the market. IndiGo’s capacity in June is at 12.2 million seats, a 12 pc increase compared to last year, followed by Air India, with 3.8 million seats, recording a year-on-year increase of 41.8 pc.
The report adds that Air India Express, a low-cost subsidiary of Air India, added the most number of seats year on year, increasing by 1.6 million or 131 pc to 2.8 million seats and is the third biggest airline in India. On the other hand, SpiceJet has had the biggest decrease in capacity with seats reducing by 206,000, by 27 pc and is the fifth biggest carrier in India.
According to the report, United Arab Emirates is the busiest international destination from India with 1.1 million seats, holding 29 pc market share. Capacity is 9 pc higher in June this year compared to last year.
The next busiest international destination, Thailand, has had significant capacity growth in the last year, adding 22 pc more seats, however this country has a much smaller market at 299,000 seats, closely followed by Singapore in third place with 285,000 seats, a similar capacity to last year.
Delhi is India’s busiest airport for domestic flights with 2.6 million seats in June 2025, a 4 pc decrease compared to June 2024, followed by Mumbai and Bengaluru in the second and third places respectively.
OAG report further adds that Mumbai to Dubai is the busiest international route from India with 234,000 seats, though capacity is 2 pc lower than last year. Meanwhile, Delhi to Dubai is the second busiest route with 197,000 seats and Delhi to London Heathrow is third busiest with 135,000 seats.
