Spotting an opportunity to bank on the recent visa waiver in Malaysia, low-cost carrier and largest Indian airline IndiGo has announced the launch of exclusive daily direct flights between Bengaluru and Langkawi, set to begin on December 16.
In a press statement, IndiGo says that the new route aims to cater to the rising number of Indian tourists visiting Malaysia following the recent visa waiver for Indian citizens.
The airline says that IndiGo flight 6E 1043 will depart from Bengaluru at 03:40 daily to reach Langkawi at 10:25. On the return leg, IndiGo flight 6E 1044 will leave Langkawi at 11:25 to land in Bengaluru at 12:55 daily.
It says that Langkawi, known for its scenic beaches and lush rainforests, becomes IndiGo’s 36th international destination and its 124th in total across the 6E network.
“We are delighted to further expand our network into Malaysia with the launch of direct flights from Bengaluru to Langkawi, our second destination in Malaysia, alongside Kuala Lumpur. With the inclusion of these flights, IndiGo will operate 14 weekly flights to Malaysia from 2 cities in India,” says Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo.
“Langkawi is one of the most popular destinations in Malaysia with its pristine beaches and lush rainforests and the country’s recent visa waiver for Indian citizens is bound to create greater demand. IndiGo remains committed to delivering an affordable, timely, courteous, and hassle-free travel experience across our expansive network,” Malhotra adds.
IndiGo says this addition enhances its extensive international routes from Bengaluru, which already include destinations like Mauritius and Bali.
With over 60 domestic connections and 10 international links from Bengaluru to cities such as Abu Dhabi, Bangkok and Doha, IndiGo strengthens the city’s positioning as a major international travel hub.
Langkawi, located off the northwest coast of Malaysia, is an archipelago known for its natural beauty and cultural attractions.
It is famous for the Langkawi Sky Bridge, UNESCO-recognised mangrove forests, and offers activities such as snorkelling, island hopping and local culinary experiences, appealing to a wide range of travellers, including adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts.
