Indigo has placed a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900 wide-body aircraft
With an aim to strengthen its global expansion strategy, low-cost carrier and India’s largest airline IndiGo has signed a fire damp lease agreement with Norway-based airline Norse Atlantic Airways for three additional Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
In a press statement, these wide-body aircraft are expected to arrive in India in the second half of 2025 and will be deployed on long-haul international routes.

“We are delighted to confirm extension of our partnership with Norse Atlantic Airways for damp lease of additional three Boeing 787-9 aircraft. This will help us make strategic inroads and establish the brand in the European market. As we execute our broader strategy to strengthen and extend our international network, we are steadily advancing towards our vision of becoming a global player by 2030, firmly rooted in India and driven by continuous expansion,” says Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo.
It further adds that the initial term of the lease agreement is six months, with the option of extending it up to 18 months, subjected to regulatory approvals.
As per the press statement, both IndiGo and Norse Atlantic Airways remain committed to exploring opportunities for further collaboration to enhance global connectivity.
Meanwhile, the press statement further says that earlier this month, IndiGo signed a firm damp lease agreement with Norse Atlantic for one Boeing 787-9, set to commence operations on the airline’s Delhi-Bangkok route from March 1, 2025.
With the latest agreement, IndiGo’s total damp-leased aircraft from Norse Atlantic now stands at four, marking a key milestone in the airline’s ambition to expand its global footprint.
IndiGo says it is actively pursuing strategic partnerships to extend its reach in international markets. The airline and Norse Atlantic Airways are continuing discussions to further deepen their collaboration, including the potential for additional aircraft contracts in the future.
Additionally, to support its long-haul expansion plans, IndiGo says that it has also placed a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900 wide-body aircraft, with an option for an additional 70. Deliveries of these aircraft are expected to begin in 2027, reinforcing the airline’s long-term strategy of becoming a key player in global aviation.
Meanwhile, IndiGo has been consistently working towards expanding its global footprint to meet the increasing demand for international travel from India. With the addition of the Boeing 787-9 aircraft, the airline aims to enhance connectivity, improve passenger experience, and cater to the growing demand for long-haul travel.
With its commitment to delivering exceptional service and increasing its reach in key global markets, IndiGo’s latest partnership with Norse Atlantic Airways marks a significant step in its journey toward becoming a prominent international airline.
