Malaysia Airlines has been awarded as the airline with the Best Seat Comfort in Eastern Asia at the 2023 Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) Passenger Choice Awards. The award was presented in a ceremony held during the Future Travel Experience APEX Asia EXPO 2022 in Singapore on Thursday.

Partnering with TripIt from Concur, the world’s highest-rated travel-organising app, the APEX Passenger Choice Awards gathered passenger feedback from more than one million flights and nearly 600 airlines from around the world to provide anonymous ratings in five subcategories: seat comfort, cabin service, food and beverage, entertainment, and Wi-Fi.

“We are truly honoured to receive this award as it is driven by our centre of gravity; our passengers, where their trust, support and feedback allow us to continue providing better value propositions curated to their needs. It is a testament to our efforts and dedication in delivering memorable end-to-end experiences for all our guests that prioritise comfort, safety and well-being. As the national carrier, we take pride in bringing our unique delivery of Malaysian Hospitality to the world, and we want to ensure that passengers have a comfortable, fulfilling journey with us as guests to our home; in line with our brand campaign ‘This is Malaysian Hospitality’. Part of this is through the in- flight experience where the seats throughout all our cabin classes are designed to provide comfort, space and convenience as central tenets in our full-service carrier offering,” says Lau Yin May, Group Chief Marketing & Customer Experience Officer of Malaysia Airlines Berhad.

According to a press statement, as part of its efforts to enhance the cabin experience, the airline has embarked on a major retrofit of its B737-800NG aircraft after a thorough evaluation of pre-pandemic demand trends as well as customer feedback and suggestions.

The first refurbished B738NG entered into service in September 2022, and boasts brand new, lightweight upholstered leather seats in both Business and Economy class, designed to provide passengers with greater comfort, convenience and enhanced functionality with motifs that pay homage to its Malaysian identity.

The statement adds that the award adds to the airline’s string of accolades in cementing its regional and global footprint, including at the recent 2022 World Travel Awards where it emerged as Asia’s Leading Airline for Business Class.
