Fraport says that cargo volumes, comprising airfreight and airmail at FRA, grew by 4.4 pc year-on-year
About 5.6 million passengers travelled via Frankfurt Airport (FRA), representing an increase of 1.8 pc compared to the same month last year, says Fraport Group, that operates FRA and several other airports across the world.
In a press statement, Fraport says that besides passenger growth, cargo volumes, comprising airfreight and airmail at FRA, also grew by 4.4 pc year-on-year to 178,977 metric tonnes in the reporting month. Meanwhile, aircraft movements climbed by 5.7 pc to 42,255 take-offs and landings, while accumulated maximum take-off weights (or MTOWs) rose by 4.4 pc, reaching around 2.6 million metric tonnes last month.
The statement adds that Fraport Group’s airports worldwide also recorded rising passenger numbers for May. At Ljubljana Airport (LJU), traffic surged by 13.5 pc compared to May last year, with 151,849 passengers using the Slovenian gateway. In Brazil, the two airports of Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA) welcomed 1.1 million passengers in May, a year-on-year increase of 132.3 pc. The increase was primarily due to the non-recurring effect from POA’s closure last year following severe flooding.
Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru recorded approximately 2.2 million passengers in May, up 6.3 pc from the previous year. Traffic at the 14 Greek regional airports edged up by 1 pc to a total of 3.7 million passengers, adds the statement.
Additionally, the two coastal airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) in Bulgaria saw traffic grow noticeably by 24.1 pc to 222,806 travellers overall. On the Turkish Riviera, traffic at Antalya Airport (AYT) remained stable at around 3.9 million passengers, with no change on the previous year.
According to the statement, total number of passengers at all airports actively managed by the Fraport Group grew by 6 pc year-on-year to around 16.8 million in May.
