India’s largest airline, low-cost carrier IndiGo has announced several measures and set the path for its future growth, that would mainly come from expansion in the overseas markets.

In a press statement, IndiGo says that it celebrated its 18th anniversary at Bharat Mandapam, ITPO Delhi, with an audience comprising of stakeholders in the travel community, its partners, investors, financial community and IndiGo’s leadership.

The airline says that over the past 18 years, IndiGo has both revolutionised and democratised air travel in India. It says that today it flies to 88 destinations with over 400 domestic routes, giving access to millions of first-time flyers and providing connectivity to all large, medium, and smaller cities across the nation.

IndiGo says it has also embarked on an exciting journey of internationalisation by already serving today 33 cities and over 100 international routes. Exiting Covid in 2022, IndiGo has embarked on a new strategy and over the last two years, it has already taken tangible steps in defining the next phase of growth towards becoming a global aviation player. These include placing the largest ever single aircraft order of 500 aircraft, introduction of Airbus A321-XLRs in 2025, and the order for the widebody A350-900, which is expected to arrive from 2027 onwards.

The airline says that these steps will enable it to double in scale and size by end of the decade. It says it will soon be adding Jaffna in Sri Lanka as its 34th international destination and with another 6 or 7 new destinations later this financial year.
