Japan’s largest airline, All Nippon Airways or ANA, is set to open a new route with a direct flight from its hub at Tokyo Haneda airport to Stockholm Arlanda Airport in Sweden.
In a press statement, ANA says that it will operate the route three times a week starting on January 31, 2025, becoming an important player in connecting the Swedish capital with one of the most important markets in Asia.
The statement adds that ANA is a member of Star Alliance and the largest provider of scheduled passenger services on the domestic and international markets to and from Japan.
ANA says it will establish itself at Stockholm Arlanda Airport with a direct route to Tokyo Haneda on January 31, 2025. The flight will be operated three times a week, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and the tickets will be on sale from July 22.
The statement says that new direct route will be significant for the hospitality industry as well as the growing business exchange between Japan and Sweden, where important cargo will benefit from shorter and faster delivery times.
This, it says, will not only serve as an important connection to the Japanese capital but also as an important connection to the whole of Asia and the South Pacific due to ANA’s vast network.
“We are thrilled to include Stockholm in our growing European network. We look forward to contributing to the deepening of ties between Japan and Sweden, fostering even closer relations between our two nations,” says Shinichi Inoue, President and CEO of ANA.
“Swedavia’s main goal is to increase connectivity, and ANAs vast network facilitates for people to meet, whether it is for business, leisure or to visit family and friends,” says Jonas Abrahamsson, president and CEO of Swedavia, which operates Swedish airports.
Japan is Sweden’s second largest trading partner in Asia, with close to 150 Swedish companies, both major corporations and start-up companies, operating in Japan, the world’s third largest economy.
Sweden in turn is the largest Nordic export market for Japan, and roughly 180 Japanese companies have operations in Sweden.
