Air India, India’s largest international carrier, and the flag carrier Singapore Airlines (SIA) have significantly expanded their codeshare agreement, adding 51 new destinations to their shared network.
According to a joint press statement by Air India and Singapore Airlines, this marks the largest expansion of their partnership since 2010, offering enhanced connectivity between India, Southeast Asia and other global regions.
Effective October 27, both airlines will codeshare on flights between Singapore and the Indian cities of Bengaluru and Chennai, increasing weekly services between the countries from 14 to 56, the statement says.
It adds that the agreement also expands SIA’s codeshare on Air India’s domestic routes, allowing SIA passengers to connect through Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata to key Indian cities like Amritsar, Lucknow and Jaipur.
Air India says its customers can now access 29 international destinations across SIA’s extensive network, including cities in Australia, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam.
The statement adds that looking ahead, both airlines plan to progressively add more destinations to their codeshare network, subject to regulatory approvals.
“This is a continuation of our effort to offer our guests more choice and an extended global network. Air India and Singapore Airlines have been long time partners, and with this expanded scope of our codeshare agreement, we are excited to offer our guests greater connectivity to destinations across South East Asia, the Far East, and Australasia. We also look forward to welcoming Singapore Airlines customers on board our flights within India as well as westward to multiple points across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East via our hubs in India,” says Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India.
“This expansion of Singapore Airlines’ codeshare arrangements with Air India reflects the strong collaborative spirit between our two carriers. It demonstrates our commitment to meeting the high demand for air travel between India and Singapore and beyond, and contributing to the growth of both aviation markets. Adding Air India’s domestic network to our codeshare arrangements will also offer our customers enhanced connectivity and convenience in India, which is a key market for the SIA Group,” says Lee Lik Hsin, Chief Commercial Officer, Singapore Airlines.
The statement adds that the expanded partnership is set to offer travellers more convenience and greater global reach, contributing to the growing demand for air travel in both markets.
