“My Trips” section of the app can access baggage information automatically after check-in: Air India
Becoming the first airline in Asia, Air India has integrated Apple AirTag with its baggage-tracking system and mobile app, enabling customers to track the location of their baggage securely.
In a press statement, Air India says that the integration is built on baggage tracking feature, which is available on Air India’s mobile app and website, it uses real-time information from airports to keep passengers informed.
The Tata owned airline adds that the customers who have added their flight to the “My Trips” section of the app can access baggage information automatically after check-in.
Additionally, according to press statement, the Indian airline states that the “Track My Bags” tab on the website provides tracking details where passengers can scan the barcode on their baggage receipts to initiate tracking.
The Tata airline adds that if a passenger’s baggage, equipped with an AirTag, does not arrive at the destination, they can report it at Air India’s baggage counter at the airport, where staff will assist in filing a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
As per press statement, India’s national carrier says that passengers must then generate the ‘Share Item Location’ link in the ‘Find My’ App on their Apple device and share it with airline which will link it to PIR via mobile app or website.
As per press statement, Air India says that on mobile app, passengers can access the ‘Customer Support Portal, select baggage and choose ‘lost & found check in baggage’ to provide AirTag link.
Air India says that on website, customers can visit the ‘Lost and Found check-in baggage’ section in the customer support portal and submit the ‘share item location’ link along with PIR number. Upon submission, passengers will receive an acknowledgment email from Air India with a link to check their baggage status.
The airline says that shared AirTag link will enable its authorised airport teams to locate the baggage within the airport premises and facilitate its return to the passenger as soon as possible. Location sharing will automatically end once the baggage is reunited with the passenger or expire after seven days, although passengers can stop sharing at any time.
