Air Canada plans to expand free Wi-Fi service to long-haul international routes in 2026
In a significant move to enhance the passenger experience, Air Canada, the flag carrier and the largest airline in Canada, has announced plans to roll out fast, free streaming-quality Wi-Fi, sponsored by Bell, beginning in May 2025. The service will be available to members of its loyalty programme, Aeroplan, on flights.
In a press statement, Air Canada announced that starting May 2025, Aeroplan members will enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi on flights within North America and Sun markets. It adds that Airline also plans to expand free Wi-Fi service to long-haul international routes in 2026.
Air Canada says that free Wi-Fi will also be available on its mainline, Rouge and most Express aircraft.
It adds that Air Canada provides top-Tier amenities, including chef-inspired menus, premium snacks, beer, wine, complimentary entertainment, live TV on equipped aircraft and a mobile app with real-time baggage tracking and digital ID.
The statement adds that customers on select regional routes, including Toronto Billy Bishop to Montreal or Ottawa, will enjoy seamless connectivity.
It adds that the Wi-Fi installation on Q400 aircraft is set to begin in 2025, with the first phase completing by year-end, marking the first free Wi-Fi on Q400s.

It further adds that since May 2023, Bell has sponsored free in-flight texting for Aeroplan members on over 90 pc of Air Canada, Rouge, and Express aircraft.
“Reliable access to streaming-quality Wi-Fi is becoming essential for both business and leisure travellers. That is why we are upgrading our fleet with the latest technologies. We are excited to offer fast, free Wi-Fi to all Aeroplane members, with a customer-focused rollout plan that includes installation of service on the Air Canada Express Q400s, including those that fly from Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport. Although other Canadian airlines have announced free Wi-Fi services, not all have accelerated installation across their fleets or committed to offering the service comprehensively. Air Canada plans to offer fast, free Wi-Fi across its entire fleet and will begin rolling out this service in early spring. What is more, over 85 pc of aircraft will be connected from day one, with the remaining installations being a priority throughout 2025,” says Mark Nasr, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Digital, Air Canada.
